Marshfield Outdoor Aquatic Center
Welcome to the Marshfield
Marshfield is a wonderful community – a great place to live, work and play. We take great pride in having quality-of-life amenities in this place we call home. Since Marshfield is the largest city in Wisconsin that has no natural waterway, having our own outdoor aquatic center provides the kind of enjoyment that we expect and cherish during Wisconsin’s summers. In fact, an outdoor aquatic center typically has higher attendance over the summer season than indoor pools have all year.
An aquatic center is so much more than a safe place where children can learn to swim. It provides outdoor recreation for young and old alike to be active and socialize. Currently, many Marshfield families drive to neighboring communities that have newer pools with more amenities. In turn, they spend money at out-of-town businesses such as restaurants and gas stations rather than locally. It is important for Marshfield to develop a new outdoor water-based recreational option that will serve the people of Marshfield and attract families here – for a day and a lifetime.
The vision is to provide a state-of-the-art public, outdoor aquatic center that enhances health, fitness, water safety, and recreational opportunities in Marshfield.
Currently, Marshfield has one outdoor pool which is located in Wildwood Park. Hefko Pool is 85 years old and needs to be replaced. Spending money on repairs and upkeep is no longer cost-effective. Hefko Pool was built in 1934, and the adjacent bathhouse was added in 1974, with only one amenity, a diving board. The new outdoor aquatic center will be located at the same site and will have 3 slides, 2 diving boards, a climbing wall, basketball hoops, a full concession stand, family changing rooms, private changing stalls, a reservable shelter, a party room, a current channel, a grass area, shade structures and plenty of lounge chairs.
Phase 01 - Final Design: July 2019 - January 2020
Phase 02 - Bidding, Permitting & Submittals: February 2020 - July 2020
Phase 03 - Construction: August 2020 - May 2021
Phase 04 - Grand Opening: July 2021
The total estimated cost of the project is 6-million dollars. The City of Marshfield’s Common Council recognizes the importance of an outdoor aquatic center and has agreed to a community challenge grant, wherein they will match every dollar privately raised up to 3-million dollars. The innovative public-private partnership is an avenue in which everyone gets a chance to contribute to the betterment of our community.
