The City of Marshfield, WI is seeking an innovative leader with exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills to lead a progressive department to meet the current and future needs of our community. Health care is the dominate industry anchored by the Marshfield Clinic. The Marshfield Clinic is the largest private medical practice in Wisconsin and one of the largest in the U.S., with about 730 physician specialists representing 86 medical specialties and over 6,800 employees in 41 clinics in WI. Together with St. Joseph’s, a 500 bed level 2 trauma center, and generates an average of 5,200 people per day. Marshfield Laboratories, a subsidiary of Marshfield Clinic, has become accredited to perform biological testing for state and federal agencies.
The position reports to the Police and Fire Commission. The PFC operates as an optional powers body with unique authority to guide and shape the mission of the public safety services. The Marshfield Police Department (MPD) mission as well as the strong traditions of the police service require the leadership talent of an individual with strong collaborative skills to work with the PFC, Mayor, Council, Union, City department heads, and employees. The MPD has excellent labor/management relations, and desires to continue current momentum by embracing programs or opportunities that will enhance the delivery of services provided.
The five-member PFC is appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Common Council for five-year overlapping terms. The PFC exercises “optional powers” pursuant to Wisconsin statutes 62.13 (6) and local ordinance. The PFC has authority and responsibility for appointment and removal of the Police Chief and Fire Chief and all policies specific to both departments. The salary schedules and departmental budgets are established by the Common Council.
