Harry is a Great Horned Owl whose date of birth is unknown.  He was received from the Milwaukee County Humane Society (found with an amputated right wing, incapable of long-distance flight).  Harry lives with two other Great Horned Owls named Hopper and Hooter.

Harry is not very comfortable with people, although he is very dependent on humans.  He hisses and clicks whenever someone gets too close in order to let people know that they are too close for comfort.

Each of our three Great Horned Owls has a favorite perch.  You will always see them perched one on top of the other in the corner of their exhibit.

Great Horned Owls are large birds of prey that specialize in hunting at night.  These birds can have a 5-foot wingspan and weight up to 4 pounds.  Great Horned Owls got their name from the two feather tufts displayed near the top of their head.  Great Horned Owls are one of the most widely-distributed birds in North America.  They are found virtually everywhere south of the arctic circle.  Part of the reason they are able to survive in so many places is their adaptability.  Great Horned Owls will eat almost everything from frogs and rodents to rabbits and turkeys.  Great Horned Owls are also very long-lived birds.  It is not unusual for captive birds to live 30 years.
